Drumhead Cottage Plants is an independent, family-run nursery and plant centre based in the beautiful setting of Alderford Lake, just outside Whitchurch in north Shropshire. Set beside the lakeside cafe, our attractive plant centre is well-stocked with an interesting range of healthy plants, the majority of which we grow ourselves peat-free, following a broadly organic approach.
Locally Grown Plants
Here at Drumhead we propagate and grow an interesting and expanding range of herbaceous perennials, ornamental grasses and shrubs. We are proud that all of our home-grown plants are potted in a peat-free growing media, that we recycle as many plant pots as possible, and that we avoid the use of harmful chemicals.
Where to find us
Our plant centre is located at Alderford Lake, on the B5476 Tilstock Road just outside Whitchurch, Shropshire. Itís conveniently located just 1/4 mile south of the main A41/ A49/ A525 roundabout on the Whitchurch bypass: follow the brown signs marked Alderford Lake. At the heart of the Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales borders, we are not much more than half an hourís drive from Chester, Shrewsbury, Wrexham and Nantwich. Postcode is SY13 3JQ.
Winter 2018-19 (Nov Ė Feb): Our plant centre remains open daily during the winter months, the same hours as Alderford lake and cafe which are 9am to 4pm Monday to Sunday.
However, PLEASE NOTE: with our nursery operating across two sites and with lots of work to be done at our garden nursery, during the quieter winter months we may not always be available at the Alderford plant centre itself. You are very welcome to browse and make purchases through the cafe, even if we are not on site. If you are looking for a particular plant or travelling a long way, we would always advise you to phone or email in advance.
Why not make a day of it by combining your visit to Drumhead Cottage Plants with a delicious light lunch or afternoon tea at Alderford Cafe right next door? Thereís a beautful lake for a pleasant stroll before or after and those brave enough can even venture into the lake for a spot of wild swimming! We are a very dog-friendly venue: dogs on leads are welcome around the lake and in the cafe. There is ample free parking on site.
